Hello Arenacross fans! It’s that time of year again, summer is gone and fall is here. It is time for the opening round of the 2008 Toyota AMA Arenacross Series in Des Moines, IA. I can hardly believe that the season is about to begin! We have exactly one week and we go racing. Let the countdown begin!!Â
Last year at the first round in Des Moines, IA there was a record amount of riders that showed up at day qualifiers just to try and get into the night program. The first day of qualifying was packed. It was all about who got a start, and pretty much hanging it out there until the checkered flag came out. Some of the riders left very disappointed and others were relieved that qualifying was over. The season never really slowed down either, we had so many talented riders and not enough podium space. The 2007 season was an unforgettable year. We were welcoming back the 1993 Arenacross champion and never ending motocross talent of Robbie Reynard, cringing when we saw the 2006 champ, Chad Johnson, sit out the season with an injury, and finally crowning Danny Smith the 2007 champion. I have a feeling that what we saw last year was just a preview of the 2008 season. It seems like everyone I talk to is pumped about the new season, both the riders and spectators.
There is going to be some new teams, new talent, and some old teams no longer racing the series. Arenacross sometimes is a place to get a little warmed up for Supercross, so I am sure we will see some Supercross stars occasionally stopping by to race. It is exciting to say that the series has 13 rounds this year, instead of 10, so there will be three extra weekends to enjoy the 2008 season. I cannot even tell you how honored I feel to be able to go to each round and see the action trackside once again.Â
As we have learned in the past, when it comes to Arenacross there is no way to know what is going to happen until you are in the final round of the last night. I do know that we will see some unforgettable and nonstop racing action like always. Once again I will be keeping you updated each week from the races, but don’t forget to go online and see if we are coming to a town near you, we would love to see you! Until next week, be safe and always keep your smile! Talk to you after round one!
Xoxo
