Thanksgiving holidays went great. Tyler did a local indoor race and I took a little time off with the family. Did have to put in a little overtime at the gym due to the huge amounts of food I ate.
Felt great leaving for Rochester. Drive up was smooth, got there in plenty of time to have dinner and get in a light workout. Track was good, old school style with hockey walls still up. Extra narrow with ruts made for carnage all weekend.
It has been a while since I last raced Arenacross in Rochester. The last time was in back in 2002 - I was racing a 250cc two-stroke and I won both nights. That would have been nice this weekend, but my return to Rochester was not going to deliver the same results.
The primary goal going into this weekend (other than winning) was to steer clear of trouble. Friday night went great. We both had good qualifiers. After running in third and fourth for the majority of the race, Tyler and I moved our way into second and third. The two of us traded spots a few times during the race and Tyler even fell down at one point, but when the checkered flag dropped it me in second place and Tyler Bright in third. Tyler also took fifth place, even after stalling the bike, in the Toyota Arenacross Lites class on Friday.
Sat night ended up well but not without a few complications. I twisted my back on the 3rd lap of practice and had to go back to the room and lay on some ice for a while. With my back in such tough shape, the plan was to stay as smooth as possible through the heat to be ready for the Main.
Unfortunately, I got seriously cleaned out hard in the 1st turn of the Heat and had to go to the Semi. I won the Semi, started 5th or 6th in the Main and worked up to 3rd. I made a couple attempts for 2nd, but just ran out of time.
Tyler finished 4th in the AX and checked out in the Lites class. After the close of racing on Saturday it was another good weekend for the Foremost Insurance Carolina Xpress Suzuki Team!
Next stop is Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am looking forward to the break, plenty of time to heal up, work on the bikes and finish up some of the sponsor stuff. The first few races of Arenacross are a blur, especially when you change sponsors. The team did really well working through the changes; we plan to be much stronger in 2008.
