After the race last weekend, Tyler and I were both anxious to back home and start riding. Luckily, the weather cleared up long enough to allow that. Other than cold temps, the riding was good. We were fortunate enough to get to ride some SX with Summey and Hanson this week, so it was a nice change of pace. It?s awesome to see a team of that size finally based on the east coast. Hopefully, for us, its gonna become a little more common. With all the motorsports and NASCAR teams in NC it definitely makes sense.
Dayton was a one day event, so we didn't have to leave until Friday morning. While being able to leave a day later and only having to race one night may seem like a good idea, it's not! The only thing it saves us is one night?s motel expense. The purse isn't doubled up, so we're essentially making half of what we normally would on a weekend . If these types of changes keep taking place I'm gonna have to stay on Sunday and become a caution flagger to make some money. Oh well, I'm sure that all athletes that fill up arenas on the weekends and sign thousands of autographs have the same problem making money like we do. Ok , enough complaining. Can you tell I had a bad weekend?
The track was ok this weekend, a little simple, but no real complaints. Practice went well, although I never really felt like I was flowing like I needed to be. But my mechanic, Dave, assured me that everybody else looked like they weren?t flowin either (just kidding). After those encouraging words, we were ready. The qualifier went good; I had found my flow finally. I ended up 3rd and Tyler got a 7th after tangling with K. Smith on the first couple of laps. We were both in. Tyler had a great race in the Lites main finishing 2nd after battling for the lead on the last few laps.
The AX main started off good for all of two corners. I went down and ended up sticking my hand in someone?s rear tire, cutting it up pretty good. The rest of the race was spent just trying to catch up and finish strong. Unfortunately, the best I could muster was a 12th. Tyler rode well with a 7th place after starting on the second row. Not too shabby for the mama's boy.
